Hand Painted Ornaments Card

header

Hi friends! Today I have a hand painted holiday card to share with you. I was itching to paint and I wanted to try something relatively easy. I was intimidated to try painting my own ornaments at home because they all have intricate patterns and swirls, maybe next time… LOL

For my painting, I first used a circle die as a guide and drew in two circles on a piece of Arches Watercolor Paper. Then, I drew in the ornaments’ tops. For the painting part, I followed this and this video by Dawn from Wplus9. She is seriously amazing and I love the way she teaches! She makes it really easy to understand.

I have used a recently acquired watercolor palette from Schmincke and I absolutely fell in love with it. The full name of the palette is Schmincke Horadam 48 Half Pan Watercolor Set. This palette is the most expensive palette I’ve ever bought and my wallet bled when I took the plunge. However, I made a promise to myself that I will seriously work towards my art goal so that “justified” my purchase  🙂

Back to my painting, I first used Sepia Brown for the shadows on the bulbs. Then, I painted in the stripes with a paint brush using Translucent Yellow and Madder Red Dark. I further deepened the shadows to create contrast by mixing these colors with browns and grays. For the background, I have used a wash of Phthalo Green. You can see in the photo that my palette is quite messy with dried paints everywhere, but I think it’s beautiful!!  🙂

For the strings, I first drew in a line with a white gel pen, then I drew in a thin line discontinuously using a Copic Multiliner in Sepia. The discontinued lines create the illusion that the strings are shiny. They also add to the delicacy of the painting.

To give the same organic look on my sentiment die cut, I watercolored it with two separate washes of of Madder Red Dark. Finally, I die cut the whole panel with SSS Stitched Rectangles Die and mounted it on SSS Fog card base with foam tape to finish.

That’s it for today. Thank you so much for stopping by! Happy holidays!

Caring Hearts Blog Hop 2016

caring-hearts

Hello friends! Welcome to the Caring Hearts Card Drive Blog Hop! Our purpose is to collect handmade holiday cards for the elderly that live in nursing homes around the world. Since 2010, we have been spreading holiday cheer to many nursing homes throughout the US, Canada and Australia, and this year, we are branching out to the UK!

It truly makes me happy that I can bring a little joy to folks by doing my favorite thing – making cards! My grandfather used to live in a nursing home before he passed away. So, I have special feelings about nursing home and the elderly who live there. We really hope you will join us in supporting this meaningful cause! For those of you who wants to participate, we have prepared a lot of prizes for many winners. All you have to do is send us your handmade cards with a message inside. For details of entry and prizes, please refer to Vera Yates’ Blog and Jennifer McGuire’s Blog.

OK! Now, let’s move onto my card! I used the Die-namics Gift Box Cover-Up to frame the snowflakes, just like looking at the snow outside the window. I can’t seem to steer away from the warm color scheme 😛

Here is how I made my card:

  1. Die cut a piece of watercolor paper with the Die-namics Gift Box Cover-Up. Use masking tape to mask the lower half of the panel, blend Festive Berries on the top part. Do the same to the bottom part with Wild Honey
  2. On another piece of watercolor paper, blend the same inks as background
  3. Stamp the snowflakes with MFT hybrid inks (Red Hot, Pineapple, Latte). Die cut out with Die-namics Simply Snowflakes. Stamp some small snowflakes with hybrid inks (Paver Red, Orange Zest)
  4. White heat emboss the sentiment on black card stock
  5. Mount everything as shown in place with foam tape. Add water droplets. Embellish with some PPP sequins (4mm Lavender Moon, 4mm Clear Droplets, 4mm Strawberry Burst, 4mm Sunshine Glow, 6mm Metallic Rose Gold). Again, I used a lot of colored sequins :))

My Favorite Things – I’m Yeti for Christmas

header

Hello friends! Today I’d like to share with you my yeti card. I finally have time to play with the BB Beast Friends Stamp Set designed by Torico! I’m telling you, this set has to be the best holiday stamp set this year! OMG I can’t even!!!

Today’s card has a lot of white on it. I figured I haven’t made such a card for a long time. I went for a traditional Christmas color scheme, but jazzed it up with the big shaker and lots of sequins 🙂

Here is how I made my card:

  1. Die cut a watercolor paper with Die-namics Merry Christmas Centerpieces. Stamp some Christmas trees with Altenew Frayed Leaf, Forest Glades and Evergreen dye inks. Add white watercolor splatters and Perfect Pearl solution all over the trees
  2. Assemble the shaker portion with Simon Says Stamp Lipstick Red Card Stock, acetate, foam tape and Pretty Pink Posh sequins. I have used Gold Star Sequins, Sparkling Clear Mix and Holiday Shimmer Mix. I added a lot of sequins because the shaker is quite big
  3. Stamp the yeti with Copic friendly ink. I have used Memento Tuxedo Black ink. Color with Copic markers. Die out out using the coordinating die. Mount onto the card front with foam tape
  4. Finally, embellish with some PPP sequins (Gold Star sequins, Holiday Shimmer Mix and Iridescent Mini Star Confetti
