Advent Calendar Project

dscn1195-4

Hello friends! It’s the first day of December! Everything in the house is ready to be decorated! Our house have always used the theme of reds and golds. This year is no exception! Speaking of the holidays, I want to share with you a project that I made last year. I just took it out from the attic and it still holds up really well! It’s my advent calendar made using supplies from Mama Elephant, Pretty Pink Posh and Lawn Fawn.

Here is how it looks like next to some regular sized ornaments. The whole project measures 17.5″ X 12″. It took me over a month from start to finish, but it is well worth it because I am using it every year¬† ūüôā

The idea was this is the house where Santa prepares presents for delivery. Some reindeer are starting to deliver some presents but they brought too many, so some of them fell off. The penguins at the bottom were trying to catch them! While the elves on the other side are decorating the tree and using some organizing.

If you are interested in a walk-through of this advent calendar, please watch my video below, but please bear with me for my weird voice and not being professional. I wasn’t good at making videos a year ago ūüėõ

Thank you for stopping by today! All the supplies I used in this project are linked below. If you are looking to order supplies from Pretty Pink Posh, remember to do so before December 4 as the shop is closing and won’t open until sometime in January! That’s all for today. Happy holidays! ūüôā

Holiday Card Design & Black Friday Sales

blog-header

Hello sweet friends! I hope you are having a fantastic Thankgsiving! My hubby and I are spending the holidays in Vancouver this year because I was¬†too lazy to cook. Seriously… The two of us could never finish a whole turkey! So, we are currently escaping our national holiday by fleeing the country LOL!!

For me, the weekend after Thanksgiving is always a wake up call to really speed up my Christmas cardmaking. I did start early this year (like September) but I still don’t¬†have enough cards. Talk about efficiency lol. In order to catch up, my plan is to have one design then mass produce it until I meet my goal ¬†ūüôā

sheep (3)-4.jpg

Here is my design this year. I have mixed supplies from two of my favorite companies – My Favorite Things and Mama Elephant. I have incorporated so many techniques in this card – shaker, die cut inlay, die cut surgery, ink blending, Copic coloring, heat embossing… Basically I included¬†everything I love about cardmaking on this design and I love it!

  1. Stamp images from Mama Elephant Wooly Winter Stamp Set in black. Color with Copic markers. Add highlight details with white gel pen
  2. Die cut a watercolor paper with MFT Die-namics Horizontal Snow Drifts Cover-Up. Trim away some of the top slopes to free up a big space for our shaker. Ink blend on the two bottom slope panels with Altenew Frayed Leaf and Coral Berry ink
  3. For the background, I blended with Altenew Mango Smoothie ink and white heat emboss some snowflakes from MFT Simply Snowflakes Stamp Set
  4. Assemble the shaker by adhering the frame onto an acetate sheet, inlay the bottom 2 slope panels. Fill up the shaker with Little Things from Lucy’s Cards Purely Peppermint Sequins and PPP 3mm Sparkling Clear sequins. Seal with foam tape
  5. Mount the sheep with foam tape and add some snowflake die cuts from MFT Die-namics Stylish Snowflakes to finish

What do you think of my card? I think it is very important to have a design that I love very much because I am going to make the same card for 20-30 times without hating it, right? If you are looking for more holiday card inspirations, click here to see my earlier designs this year.

Many crafting companies are having amazing sales RIGHT NOW until Monday! Below are some deals from two of my favorite stores:

Simon Says Stamp is having a site-wide sale today (Nov 24) through tomorrow (Nov 25). All products are 15% off with the code SSSBFS.

anniversary-2016-ig-early2016.jpg

Ellen Hutson is celebrating their 10th anniversary and they are having a huge sale between Nov 25 (Friday) and Nov 28 (Monday). Now would be a great time to do some Christmas crafty shopping and to purchase the things you have always wanted! The discount code early2016 is valid 12:00-9:00am PST!

During Black Friday, I like to order big ticket items or items that are usually not on sale. Here are some of my personal favorite picks! They would make amazing Christmas gifts for yourself or your loved ones ¬†ūüôā

1_305864_zm1. Kuretake Gansai Tambi Watercolor, 36 Color Set –¬†My personal favorite watercolor set. The paints are absolutely beautiful and creamy. I highly recommend it. See here, here and here for some of my card samples using this watercolor set. Available on sale at¬†Ellen Hutson // Simon Says Stamp

2. Copic Marker Florals 2 Kit & Copic Marker Pale Pastel Kit – You guys know I love Copic markers and my favorite ones are the pastel ones. With the Copic shortage still going on, it is really hard to purchase those colors alone. So purchasing a set now when it is on sale would be a good time. See here, here and here for my cards using Copic. These two sets are available at here and here.

3. Tim Holtz Mini Distress Ink Pads РDistress inks are my favorite inks for ink blending and various other techniques e.g. watercoloring, faux watercoloring, ink smooching, etc. Card samples here, here and here. Full set available at Simon Says Stamp. Individual sets available at Ellen Hutson // Simon Says Stamp

4. Distress Marker Set – If you love watercoloring with distress inks and want to upgrade your collection, I’d recommend looking at the distress markers. Apply the marker directly on your image first, then dilute with a water brush. This would create a more intense look but still have a watercolor look. Full set available here.

That’s all for today. Thank you so much for stopping by! Happy holidays!

Mama Elephant Pastel Bunnies

blog header

Hello friends! Today I want to share with you some cards I made using the new Mama Elephant Pix’s Favorite stamp set. I’ll admit that the first time I saw these bunnies, I just lost control… They are just TOO.DARN.CUTE… I can’t even….. I think many of you will have the same feeling ūüėõ

I first started stamping A LOT of bunnies on an A4 Neenah Solar White card stock in black outline. Then, I just went nuts and colored them all! I told you I was losing control… By the time I was done coloring, I felt like my coloring skill has improved LOL… I have used my Copic markers for my coloring and I used pastel colors. Then, I die cut them out with the coordinating die.

For my first card, I picked a color combo of pink, yellow and light blue. I have used MFT Watercolor Stripes Background stamp. The scalloped circle is die cut from some yellow card stock. The whole panel is then die cut with Mama Elephant All Prettied Up die to get the fine scalloped edges. At last, I finished off with a gold heat embossed sentiment.

3 bunny (1)

For my second card, the color combo is pink, yellow, orange and purple. I love these colors!!! My background is made by white heat embossing a background stamp, then ink blending with distress inks. The sentiment is from Mama Elephant Heartfelt Wishes.

3 bunny (2)

My third card is a bunny party! Four bunnies altogether! This time I mainly used pink, peach, purple and light blue. The background is MFT Sweater Stitch Background. I first white heat embossed it, then I blended with dye inks. The white frame is die cut with MFT Die-namics Blueprints 27 for three times then stacked together for dimension. I added in a light yellow sun and a label sentiment to finish off.

3 bunny (3)

So many bunnies for today! Speaking of which, I named myself thecraftbunny because I was born in the bunny year. Not much to that name ūüôā

That’s it for today! I hope you’ve enjoyed reading. Let me know which card you like the most. I think the second one¬†is my favorite! What about you?

Swimming Towards the Sunset

blog header

Hello friends! I am popping in today to share my new watercolor card. Everyone has been sharing their Mama Elephant Whale cards these days and I am having so much fun seeing what my talented friends have made. My order has finally arrived and it’s my turn to craft up a storm with these killer whales. They are just perfect!

Here is my watercolor card. These days I am addicted to creating one-layer watercolor card. Just a piece of watercolor paper, a lot of paints and water. Today, I made a scene where a little girl is riding on the Orca. Together, they swim towards the beautiful sunset, enjoying our nature.

Mama Elephant Whale Watercolor Card (2)

I have used a combination of watercolor paints and markers for my card. You can see what I have used in my supply list below. I have so much fun painting this scene. My favorite is the clouds. I am still learning to paint clouds but here’s to a good beginning, I guess? ūüôā
